WHAT IS CANNABIS

Cannabis is derived from the Cannabis plant. There are more than 483 known compounds in the plant including at least 65 other cannabinoids. There are 3 types of cannabis plants that are well known. These are:

  • Indica. This type of strain is considered soothing and relaxing.
  • Sativa. These strains make people feel excited, happy, and energized.
  • Hybrids. A combination of both indica and sativa, hybrids are blends that are often left up to the manufacturer or dispensary.
  • Ruderalis. Is mostly utilized in the production of commercial and industrial hemp plants.

WHAT ARE CANNABINOIDS?

Cannabis is made up of various components, which are known as cannabinoids. Experts have a good understanding of two them, known as Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Each has its own effects and uses:

  • CBD. This is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it won’t get you “high.” Researchers are constantly investigating the benefits of medical CBD.
  • THC. This is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. THC is responsible for the “high” that most people associate with cannabis.

None of the Elixir branded products or any of the items carried on our online store, contain THC.

Elixir products are True-Zero THC

HOW DOES CBD WORK IN THE BODY?

The endocannabinoid system has been recognised as an important modulatory system in the function of brain, endocrine and immune tissues. This complex system is made up of receptors scattered throughout the body, which regulate health and homeostasis (refers to the ability of an organism or environment to maintain stability despite changes).

The receptors have been identified in nearly every major organ system, from the brain and spinal cord to the gastrointestinal tract.

CB1 receptors are associated most closely with the brain and nervous system.

CB2 receptors are linked to the immune system.

When activated by exposure to cannabinoids, the receptors of the endocannabinoid system become reactive. This means they’re able to affect key body processes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISOLATE, BROAD SPECTRUM AND FULL SPECTRUM?

CBD ISOLATE: This is the purest form of CBD. It is tasteless and odourless. There are no risks of psychoactive effects as there is no THC present. It does not deliver the enhanced benefits of the entire cannabis plant.

BROAD SPECTRUM: Offers the full benefits of the cannabis plant (entourage effect). No risk of psychoactive effects as no THC. May have a strong natural flavour and odour. The following cannabinoids are present in our Elixir broad spectrum tinctures and oral sprays: CBD, CBG, CBN and CBD-V

FULL SPECTRUM: Offers the full benefits of the cannabis plant (entourage effect). All the compounds work together to offer a wider therapeutic range of effects. Undergoes fewer processes. Has THC. May have psychoactive, sedative or possibly unwanted side effects. May have a strong natural order and flavour. May show up on drug tests. Legal implications. *Elixir Africa does not carry any Full Spectrum based products*

WHAT IS A COA AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT

Certificates of Analysis refers to a quality assurance document that confirms that a regulated product meets its product specification. They commonly contain the actual results obtained from testing performed as part of quality control of an individual batch of a product.

Each of the products on the Elixir site has a COA which gives our customers comfort knowing that they know full well what they are taking.
